Team BC – 2017 North American Indigenous Games

The 2016 BC Aboriginal Provincial Canoe & Kayak Championships served as the primary selection event to identify Team BC athletics players for the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) held in Toronto, Ontario from July 16-23, 2017. Following the BC Aboriginal Provincial Canoe & Kayak Championships, athletes were appointed to Team BC’s development team.

The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council would like to extend a warm thank you to the Seabird Island First Nation in Aggasiz, BC for hosting the 2016 BC Aboriginal Provincial Canoe & Kayak Championships.

Provincial Sport Organization Partner – Canoe Kayak BC

The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council is responsible for the Team BC program for the North American Indigenous Games.  With guidance and oversight provided by its Team BC Work Group and Provincial Aboriginal Canoe Committee, the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council is also supported in the Team BC athlete and coach development processes through partnership with PSO partner, Canoe Kayak BC.  Canoe Kayak BC is committed to:

  • Assisting with the hosting the BC Aboriginal Canoe Championships
  • Providing relevant coaching education opportunities
  • Providing opportunities for athlete development by way of training camps and competitions
  • Supporting communities that are pursuing sustainable development programs in their efforts to acquire appropriate equipment
