First Beach Volleyball medal ever for Team BC!

SWIMMING MEDAL HAUL The swim team created an electric atmosphere as they raked in an incredible number of medals, with an unofficial count of 30+ medals. Coach Leanne Sirup said, "It was a lot of fun being on deck with the team, and we are really proud!" We’re so excited to see our swimmers' futures; we sure do have a lot of talented Team BC swimming athletes. Ooh ah! West coast, best coast!  ATHLETICS BRINGS IN 6 MEDALS TODAY Wrapping up day 3 of Track at Beazley Field Park, the team had a great showing in results, with several medals and top 8 finishes. Congratulations to all of the hardworking athletes! Today, we brought in two silver medals and four bronze medals. What an incredible accomplishment, athletes! Good luck to the cross country team tomorrow!  FIRST EVER BEACH VOLLEYBALL MEDAL Team BC wins FIRST EVER medal in beach volleyball! The 16U female team, Tymeko Collinson (Skidegate Band Council) and Mischa Krawcyzk (Duncan’s First Nation) won a silver medal, after competing with such heart throughout the competition. In its inaugural year as a Team BC sport at NAIG, Head Coach, Kat Dolguikh stated “I am so proud of all our beach volleyball athletes! They made tremendous progress throughout the Games and have learned to love the sport. Go Team BC!”  LAST DAY OF CANOE KAYAK Wrapping up the last day of canoe and kayak, days seemed to fly by fast. First Day of Competition for Wrestling, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Golf, and 3D Archery!

ATHLETICS EARNS THEIR FIRST MEDALS OF THE WEEK! "Today on the athletics field, Team BC had some very impressive performances in all areas. Despite the intense heat and humidity, athletes raced hard, threw far and jumped past their limits to secure new PBs as well as some medals," said Coach Siri Svensson. Shoutout performances include Danny Legault (Nuxalk Nation) from Bella Coola coming in silver for discus and James Reed (Red Pheasant Nation) from Vanderhoof coming in bronze for the 800m!  WRESTLING OFF TO A GREAT START Kicking off their competition with high energy and strong team spirit, wrestling athletes Fayth Pontious (Métis Nation British Columbia) from Campbell River. and Jacob Littler (Lytton First Nation) from Prince George demonstrated their grit on the mat. First time on the mat and only 2 months into the sport, athlete Maddex McGrath (Canim Lake) from Kamloops shone brightly as he won his first matches!  CANOE KAYAK BRINGING IN MORE MEDALS! Today's weather was great for the races today, sunny with some light winds. We had one race, where the 19U Males had a clean sweep, with Al Wyse (Snuneymuxw First Nation) from Nanaimo coming in 1st place, Noah Gray (Cowichan Tribes) from Lake Errock in 2nd place, and Cyrus George (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) from Agassiz in 3rd place. What a big day for Team BC Canoe Kayak coming home with 5 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze! Assistant Coach Darcy Paul was very happy with today's results and said that "traveling across Canada with Team BC" has helped them build memories that will last a lifetime." TEAM BC BEACH VOLLEYBALL & NAIG 2023 Team BC is pleased to announce the official Beach Volleyball roster for the 2023 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in Halifax, Nova Scotia:   2023 NAIG BEACH VOLLEYBALL EVENT INFORMATION: The NAIG Beach Volleyball competition consists of male and female teams for 16U (born 2007 & later) and 19U (born 2004 & later) age categories. PARTICIPANTS Athletes: Each Province, Territory and State may enter a maximum of two (2) athletes per male and female teams, per age category. As per the NAIG Council, all athletes must be double vaccinated to participate. Coaches: Each Province, Territory and State may accredit one (1) coach and one (1) manager per team. One of the above staff must be of the same gender as the participating team. Canada – NCCP Requirements (All Coaches must have the following coaching certifications or equivalent) Head Coach Level 1 Beach Volleyball (theory, technical and practical) Volleyball Canada HARASSMENT POLICY and PROCEDURES GENERAL RULES: The most recent version of the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) Official Rule Book will apply, unless otherwise stated in this package. COMPETITION FORMAT: The competition format will be determined by the number of entries per age category. The Host Society will make every effort to maximize the number of games each team receives. Each team will play a minimum of three (3) matches.

Call-Out for U19 Male Volleyball Players for Team BC Spring Selection Camp Team BC Seeking U19 Male Volleyball Athletes to Represent the Province at the 2017 NAIG Team BC is seeking U19 Male Volleyball players who are interested in representing the Province at the 2017 NAIG. Male volleyball athletes born 1998-2003 are invited to register for Team BC’s Spring Selection Camp. Registration for the camp will remain open only for the Team BC Male Volleyball Program. This camp will determine the final Team BC NAIG roster members to pursue participation in the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) held in Toronto, Ontario from July 16 to 23, 2017. To register for the selection camp, please complete the online form. For male athletes who did not attend the first Provincial Camp, the registration fee of $25.00 is required. (December 14, 2023) – The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I·SPARC) is pleased to announce the 10 outstanding athletes named as provincial recipients of the 2022 Premier’s Awards for Indigenous Youth Excellence in Sport. Team BC 19U Male Soccer wins GOLD!

We are thrilled to announce that the 19U male soccer team has won the gold medal in their match against Manitoba! We congratulate Max Joe, Billy August, Dallas Nelson and Kamryn Pierre for scoring the four winning goals. Coach Chris Daniels said the “1st half was a good back and forth battle, then the 2nd half started with Team BC taking the momentum at the start, but 4.5 minutes in we got delayed with thunder. Once the game started back up, Team BC took control and scored the game's first goal, 5 minutes later we took a 2-0 lead. Later, Team BC had a lot more room to completely control the game. scoring 2 more goals to finish with a 4-0 victory”   Congratulations to the 16U female soccer team on their victory! Winning a match 2-1, “the girls battled hard, they went in strong and came out on top,” said Coach Leslie Robinson. This week the strategy was “Player insight is key for success.” Congratulations 16UF squad, now we go for gold!   Congratulations to the 16U male soccer team on their impressive 3-0 victory in the fourth game! GREAT DAY ON THE COURTS The 16U and 19U beach volleyball teams played remarkably hard but couldn’t score the win against Team Saskatchewan. The 19U girls play for bronze tomorrow with the 16U girls playing in their semifinal match against Team Yukon! What a great day with Team BC Beach Volleyball!  NATHANIEL STUIT OF ATHLETICS BREAKS 52 SECONDS IN THE 400M Today we wanted to highlight a story of Nathaniel Stuit (Nahanni Butte Dene Band) from Victoria shared by Athletics Assistant Coach, Skylar Bown. "Today Nathaniel left it all on the track. He’s been training consistently for years and has been dreaming of breaking 52 seconds in the 400m. He passed his competitors in the final 150m, running a time of 51.89.  It’s been 11 months since he’s seen his mom and she was able to be there in the stands cheering him on. On top of that, his grandfather, who celebrated his 80th birthday yesterday, was at Beazley Fields watching his grandson fulfill his largest goals. Everyone in the crowd could sense Nathaniel’s passion in his win. We are so proud of him!"   All athletes pushed through today and worked hard despite the rainy and misty conditions to accomplish many personal bests and top 8 finishes. Kendra Sampson of Lax Kw'alaams took home the bronze medal in the 16U female discus, James Woelders (Métis Nation British Columbia) from Aldergrove got the silver medal in 14U javelin (with a 10m personal best).  SOLID PERFORMANCES ON DAY TWO OF GOLF! Canoe Kayak Wins Team BC’s First Medals!

CANOE KAYAK WINS TEAM BC'S FIRST MEDALS! The Canoe Kayak Team BC had an impressive start at the 2023 NAIG, setting the tone for a successful competition. Leading the way in the 14U Female category, Vivianna Thomas showcased her skills and determination, securing Team BC's first gold medal of the week. Despite the unpredictable weather that ranged from sunshine to rain and strong winds, the athletes displayed unwavering bravery and raced hard. Today proved to be a remarkable day for Team BC as they earned a total of 6 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals in Canoe and Kayak events.  The Team BC Coaches were thrilled about today's outcome. Coach Peter Amos shared, "today, we united as a canoe kayak family, creating a remarkable atmosphere of positive energy and making lasting memories." Chrystal McCallum stated, "being kind is more important than being important. The 16U soccer female team pulled off a win against a solid Team Alberta, citing player insight as going to be the key to their success in these games. The 16U male team had a slow start to the game, but managed to slowly take control to a 2-1 win over Team Alberta. The 19U female team reportedly felt nervous but are look forward to shaking off those nerves tomorrow.
