Ultimate Spirit with Khowhemun Elementary School

The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council – Vancouver Island Region – is pleased to present an Ultimate Frisbee sport development camp for Indigenous youth (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) hosted in partnership with School District 79 Aboriginal Education & Khowhemun Elementary.

Since its creation in the late 60’s, Ultimate has gained worldwide recognition as a fast-paced sport that emphasizes sportsmanship through Spirit of the Game. It’s easy to learn, requires little equipment and can easily be played in any open space. The basic skills of the game – throwing, catching, running and jumping –make for an easy transition for athletes from other sports, both team and individual. New participants often indicate that the strong sense of community at all levels of play make for a rewarding experience on and off the field.

This single session sport development camp will introduce the sport of Ultimate through fun activities designed to engage and team build. Sessions will be delivered by Level 3 NCCP certified coach Jimmy Roney. Jimmy X, as he’s known in the Ultimate community is an NCCP certified coach whom represented Canada in three world championships in the master’s division at the WUCC in Prague CZ 2010, the WUGC in Osaka Japan 2012 (gold medal), and the WUBC in Dubai UAE 2015 (silver medal).
