The series of BC Indigenous Provincial Championships and Camps are an important component of I·SPARCs Provincial Strategy as they support the effort to develop a consistent and coordinated Indigenous Team BC program to better prepare athletes and coaches for upcoming North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) and other elite competitions.

The 2019 BC Aboriginal Provincial Soccer Championships will serve as the Team BC Selection Event whereby the winning teams of the U15 and U18 divisions will earn the right to represent BC at the Halifax 2020 North American Indigenous Games. Accordingly, only eligible teams (“Regional Teams”) formed by the Regional Committees & Regional Coaches are permitted entry into the U15 and U18 divisions of the Provincial Championships (which qualify as U16 and U19, respectively, in the year 2020 at NAIG).

AGE DEFINITIONS
U18 – born in 2001, 2002 or 2003
U15 – born in 2004 – 2005

The Halifax 2020 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) will take place in Halifax July 2020. A multi-sport event for Aboriginal youth ages 13 to 19 from across North America held every three years, the NAIG celebrates sport excellence, youth, volunteerism, and Indigenous culture through a showcase of youth excellence in sport, language, tradition, art, song and ceremony. Teams come from the 13 Canadian provinces and territories and 13 regions from the United States to compete in 15 different sports. More information regarding NAIG can be found at www.naigcouncil.com

I·SPARC is the recognized Aboriginal Sport body that oversees the operations of Team BC for NAIG. Team BC will include approximately 500 athletes and coaches participating in 13 sports. Team BC is led and managed by a Chef de Mission and Mission Staff, whose main responsibility will be to oversee team operations and logistics.

Our volunteer coaches and team managers will evaluate athletes at the ID Camp, notify athletes for team selection after the ID Camp, prepare & lead their Regional team into the Provincial Championships.
