Seeking Host Communities for 2019-2020 BC Indigenous Provincial Events

The Host Application Process is for First Nations, Métis Chartered Communities, Friendship Centres, and other Indigenous organizations to apply to host event(s) within the 2019/20 series of BC Indigenous Provincial Championships and Athlete Development Camps. Successful community hosts will be awarded a Hosting Grant to help offset the majority of the event operating costs.  The Championships and Development Camps are to be held primarily in the Summer/Fall of 2019 in a variety of communities across British Columbia. These events have been strategically established to support Indigenous athlete and coach development in sports featured in the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).  With the Halifax 2020 NAIG approaching, the series of 2019/20 BC Aboriginal Provincial Championships & Camps will be a primary component of the Team BC Talent Identification and/or Selection Processes for athletes to represent Team BC at the Halifax 2020 NAIG. Information regarding the specific details of the Team BC Selection processes for each sport will be released in spring of 2019. The Provincial Championships & Camps series include the following NAIG sports: Championships: Golf Athlete Camps:  Athletics (Track&Field) Basketball - Regional Camps Lacrosse Softball Swimming Volleyball The BC Indigenous Provincial Championships and Athlete Development Camps are an important component of the Provincial Strategy for Indigenous Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity.  The events provide a unique opportunity for Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) athletes and coaches throughout the province to gather and compete in events that promote sport excellence while celebrating cultural unity and pride. I·SPARC Honours Provincial Recipients of the Premier’s Awards for Indigenous Youth Excellence in Sport 12 Outstanding Athletes Receive Prestigious Award at Gathering Our Voices Opening Ceremony Port Alberni, B.C. (March 20, 2019) – The Premier’s Awards for Indigenous Youth Excellence in Sport were presented last night to twelve outstanding Indigenous youth athletes from across British Columbia. The Awards were presented by the Honourable Scott Fraser, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation during a formal celebration held during the opening ceremony of the Gathering Our Voices Indigenous Youth Leadership Training at the Alberni Athletic Hall in Port Alberni, BC I·SPARC, in collaboration with the Province of British Columbia, created these awards to highlight the incredible achievements of Indigenous youth athletes in the province and honour their excellence in performance sport, leadership qualities, commitment to their education and role in their communities both on and off the field. From the 47 regional recipients selected in 2018, a total of 12 recipients (six male and six female) have been selected to receive the provincial award, representing I·SPARC’s six regions – Northeast, Northwest, Interior, Fraser, Vancouver Coastal, and Vancouver Island. Provincial Host Call Out for the 2018/19 BC Indigenous Provincial Athlete Development Camps & Championships The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I∙SPARC) is seeking First Nations, Friendship Centres & Metis Chartered Communities to host the 2018/19 BC Indigenous Provincial Athlete Development Camps and Championships. The Provincial Camps series will consist of a provincial athlete development camp delivered for each of the following sports: 3-D Archery* Athletics (Track & Field) Badminton Lacrosse Rifle Shooting* Softball Swimming Volleyball Wrestling *3-D Archery and Rifle Shooting will be a combined Camp and Championships format; Day 1 will be Skills Development and Day 2 will be a Championship. The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I∙SPARC) is pleased to announce the dates and locations of several events within the 2017-18 series of BC Indigenous Provincial Athlete Development Camps. 8 outstanding Aboriginal athletes receive prestigious award Chase B.C. (November 23rd, 2017) – The 2017 Premier’s Awards for Aboriginal Youth Excellence in Sport were presented to eight outstanding Aboriginal athletes from British Columbia’s Interior Region during a formal celebration held today at the Adams Lake Recreation Center in Chase, B.C. The Interior is the sixth of six regions to honour Aboriginal athletes through this unique province-wide awards program. I·SPARC Interior Regional Lead Bruce Baptiste said “We are proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of our athletes in the Interior region.
