The mission of the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (I·SPARC) is to improve the health outcomes of Indigenous people across British Columbia by supporting and encouraging physically active communities. The programs delivered by I·SPARC are designed to build capacity and increase access to sport, recreation and physical activity in First Nations, Aboriginal Friendship Centres, Métis Chartered Communities, schools and other delivery agencies throughout the Province.
General Description
I·SPARC is currently searching for a Manager, Premier’s Awards and Communications for a 1 year term (Maternity leave). Working as a member of the senior management team, this individual will maintain two distinct roles within the organization; 1) oversight of the Premier’s Awards for Aboriginal Youth Excellence in Sport, including the annual nomination, selection and presentations of the Regional and Provincial awards, and 2) oversight of the organization’s communications and promotions, including media relations, website, social media, digital media, brand identity, and awareness.
Competencies and Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess an extensive background in project management, communications and have established networks/connections among Indigenous communities and organizations throughout the Province. Other qualifications include:
- Post-secondary degree with 5+ years experience working in the not-for-profit sector focused on communications, marketing and event management (or combination of education and experience)
- Applied knowledge of BC’s Indigenous communities and their physical activity and health related needs
- Superior project and event management skills with a demonstrated ability to multitask, work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines
- Hands-on experience developing and implementing media, advocacy and marketing campaigns
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Attention to detail and superior organizational skills
- Ability to manage annual Premier’s Awards and Communications budget
- Proficient in Microsoft applications, WordPress and publishing and design software
- Willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule and available to travel throughout BC
- Successfully undergo criminal record and vulnerable sector checks
The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) serves as the official Host Agency of I·SPARC. Accordingly, the Manager – Premier’s Awards and Communications will be employed by the BCAAFC.
Term: One-year Temporary (Maternity leave)
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Location: Office space will be established in a location central to the successful candidate
