The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (I·SPARC) is a provincial organization established for the purpose of improving the health outcomes of Indigenous people by supporting and encouraging physically active individuals, families, and communities. The programs and services delivered by I·SPARC are designed to build capacity and increase access to sport, recreation, and physical activity in First Nations, Aboriginal Friendship Centres, Métis Chartered Communities, schools, and other delivery agencies throughout British Columbia.
General Description
I·SPARC is currently seeking a Program Coordinator to support multiple program areas within I·SPARC. Working as a member of the Sport team, this individual provides excellent administrative and project management skills. This position will support three (3) programs: 1) Planning and coordination for Team BC’s annual participation in the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (2023 event scheduled for May 7-14, in Winnipeg, MB), including management of the Team BC Selection Camp; 2) Administering the Reignite the SPARC grant program; and 3) Planning and coordinating of the Premier’s Awards for Indigenous Youth Excellence in Sport program (regional and provincial processes). This role will also provide general support across other I·SPARC programs, as required by the Directors of each functional area.
Competencies and Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a background in event management, program management and/or sport management, with some “on-the-ground” event operations experience. Other qualifications include:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree with 2+ years’ experience and / or education working in sport management, program management and / or event management (or combination of education and experience). NOTE: Part-time work experience during studies and relevant volunteer experience will be taken into consideration
- Applied knowledge of the diversity of Indigenous cultures, identities, lived history, and community issues
- Hands-on experience developing and managing project / program timelines, new program implementation, community-facing initiatives, project management systems, and communications / marketing campaigns
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional organization skills and ability to prioritize workflows while working remotely in a busy program with many critical deadlines
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft applications
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule (including some weekends)
- Available to travel throughout the province, as well as attend national and international events as required
- Successfully undergo criminal record and vulnerable sector checks (annually)
- Valid Canadian driver’s license
Term: This is a full-time permanent position
Salary: The salary is $48,500 – $54,000 annually, depending on experience (based on a 35-hour work week) which includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Location: This is a remote work position. Candidate must be a resident of British Columbia.
