The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (I·SPARC) is aware of recent communications regarding an event referred to as the “2027 International Indigenous Games.”
The organization recognizes and respects the interest in creating meaningful sport opportunities for Indigenous athletes. At the same time, it wishes to clarify that this event is not affiliated with or connected to I·SPARC or to Team BC’s official participation in the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).
I·SPARC serves as the recognized Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Body (PTASB) responsible for overseeing Team BC’s participation in the North American Indigenous Games. The NAIG is governed by the NAIG Council, whose board of directors is mandated by the PTASBs in Canada and by a collective of states within defined regions in the USA.
I·SPARC remains focused on preparing Team BC athletes, coaches, and officials for the upcoming NAIG through pathways that support athlete and coach development and build community confidence. Information regarding Team BC and NAIG programming will continue to be shared through I·SPARC’s official communications channels. Community members with questions regarding Team BC as it relates to NAIG participation are welcome to direct inquiries to teambc@isparc.ca.
