Indigenous Cultural Safety Training

Our training series, facilitated by I·SPARC leaders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural safety experts, will provide Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) training through the lens of sport, physical activity, and recreation. This professional development opportunity will empower you with the confidence and tools to make informed decisions as a Provincial Sport Organization, contributing to future growth and development. This highly recommend training includes both online and in-person sessions.

This session is open to anyone that coaches, volunteers, administration, directors, etc., that is connected to a Provincial Sports Organization, Multi Sport Organizations, Local Sport Organizations or Disability Sport Organizations.

Overview of ICS Training

SESSION 1 – Virtual Session, All Participants
Zoom Session (1 hour)
Topic: Indigenous Cultural Safety Training Orientation

SESSION 2 (Part 1) – Self-paced & Online
Online module (Approximately 2-3 hours)
Topic: I·SPARC Indigenous Cultural Safety Training E-Module
Unique online module for foundational learning opportunity provides an understanding of the historical and current realities of Indigenous Peoples as well as our roles in creating a braver and inclusive future for all will be sent out and consists of the following:
1) History to Present Day
2) Present Day – Impact and Inequities
3) From Truth to Reconciliation

SESSION 2 (Part 2) – Self-paced & Online
Online video (1 hour)
Topic: Sport and Culture video by Elder Alex Nelson
*Session 2 links to be emailed out. Participants to complete the e-module and video on your own time between these dates.

SESSION 3 – In-Person, All Participants
In-person workshop sessions over 2 days: (16 hours)
Topics explored include: Power and Privilege, Mascots – What we Wear, Understanding Past and Present, Territorial Acknowledgements, along with Current Events
