Grants for Organizations to Provide Sport, Physical Activity and Cultural Programs for Children and Youth in Care

Introduction

Grants have been developed to provide program support for not-for-profit, community-based organizations, clubs, bands, and recreation centres. These organizations will deliver programming targeted to increase participation in sport, recreation and physical activity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Children and Youth in Care (CYIC) who may face many barriers to participation.

Objective

The goal of this grant is to support organizations, communities, and clubs to develop program opportunities which promote and support participation for CYIC.

Organizations are eligible to apply for a grant up to $10,000.

Examples of eligible organizations are, but not limited to:

  • First Nations/Bands, Métis Chartered Communities, Friendship Centres, or other community organizations
  • Not-for-profit clubs and associations that directly deliver organized sport, physical activity, recreation, or cultural programs in their community
  • Municipalities, recreation centres
  • Schools (K-12)

Grant Requirements

  • Applications will only be accepted online
  • Applications must be fully completed including the submission of a program budget and program plan

Considerations

The following activities are eligible for funding under this program including but not limited to:

  • Short term (weekend camps, special events and try it programs)
  • Longer term (6 to 12 week/ongoing) programs.
  • Types of programs eligible include but not limited to:
    • Sport
    • Physical activity
    • Recreation activity or program
    • Cultural programs or activities
    • Camps
    • Special Events
    • Other physically active programs which engage CYIC participants in the community
  • The following types of activities are NOT eligible for funding under this program:
    • General operating expenses (staff salaries, office rent, regular promotional or marketing activities)
    • Capital expenditures (renovation, construction, computer equipment)
    • Deficits incurred from past activities
    • Awards
    • Re-granting programs
    • Political activities
  • I·SPARC will only approve ONE application per organization per year and will not provide multi-year funding.

Application Approvals

  • Initial intake January
  • Future intakes are in the planning stages, check back for future timing.
  • Applications will be reviewed for funding once fully completed.
  • Initial screening of all applications will be conducted by I·SPARC’s Grant Manager
  • Funding decisions will be made by a review panel. The panel will assess grants based on the following:
    1. Alignment with the purpose of the RISE grant and anticipated use of funds.
    2. Ability to complete the program and meet its goals and objectives.
    3. Demonstrates a commitment to increase access and opportunities for Children and Youth in Care.
    4. Provides evidence that the program is not solely dependent on grant funding to deliver the program.
    5. Demonstrates longer term sustainability of the program and community impact.

All applicants will be notified of successful or unsuccessful applications. Instructions on next steps and grant obligations will be conveyed to successful recipients.

Grant Distribution

Payments for successful applications will be made within 30 days of the decision to the applying organization. Funding may only be utilized for the direct delivery of the specific program, activity, or event that has been applied.

Grant Reporting

A survey will be deployed to all successful grant recipients to gather information on the program progress and results. A final budget and report will be required within one month of the completion of the project. Successful applicants may also be asked to participate in interviews and share their findings and impact from program participants.

Terms and Conditions

Support from the Province of British Columbia and I·SPARC will be acknowledged on all materials related to the funded project, with the consent of I·SPARC.
